The Outspoken Skeptic, Carl Sagan

The following was published in the website, Campaign for Philosophical Freedom. As many of you may know, Carl Sagan has been a figurehead for scientific skepticism of  life beyond life.

Carl Sagan’s Book and TV Documentary ‘Cosmos’

A whole generation of scientists have been brought up following Carl Sagan’s materialistic model of the universe. This has recently been made very clear by the incredible television coverage that has been given to the astrophysicist Professor Brian Cox. On one of his programmes he even held up his copy of ‘Cosmos’.

The theme of Carl Sagan’s thirteen-part television series is that if only we had been following the great Greek scientists and not the religious fanatics who plunged the known world into the Dark Ages, we would have got to the moon in the tenth century. I am 100% with him on this. However, Sagan puts the blame for this disaster squarely on the shoulders of Pythagoras, Socrates, and Plato. He looks at the camera and almost spits it out, “They were mystics!” In other words they were on our side, starting from the correct scientific base that we all possess a soul that separates from the dead physical body.

Carl Sagan, like so many scientists, declared war on superstitious religious hatred. These scientists have all made the terrible mistake of throwing out the idea of survival because they associate it with supernatural religious beliefs instead of reading survival as a branch of subatomic physics, forces that are normally out of range of our five physical senses.

The analogy here is what happened to the French Revolution in 1789. It was started by good men and women fighting a monstrous tyranny. They had a splendidly worded banner of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Sadly, like most revolutions, it was hijacked by fanatics with a different agenda. Rather like we are witnessing in the Middle East at this very moment.

Is it any wonder that we have been having great difficulty in just presenting the secular scientific case for a separate mind and brain on mainstream media and educational outlets?

It’s the same old story: we are up against very powerful people with a great deal to lose from uncomfortable scientific discoveries. However, this time the obscurants have run into something that Giordano Bruno and Galileo could only just dream about – the Internet. The Information Highway is presenting scientific discoveries that are blocked in the national press and on most radio and television programmes, but most of all, vilified in schools and universities by teachers with a great deal to lose from the truth.

Crookes, Lodge, Thomas Paine and Arthur Findlay are under such a tremendous attack from wealthy materialists and religionists who have so much to lose from the secular scientific case for survival after death, a separate mind and brain.
